Will We Be Worshipping All the Time?

All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying:

“Amen!

Praise and glory

and wisdom and thanks and honor

and power and strength

be to our God for ever and ever.

Amen!”

Revelation 7:11–12

There’s something wonderful about belting out a favorite hymn with a church full of Christians. Music moves us in ways that words alone often cannot. Martin Luther once said, “Music is God’s greatest gift.” He also observed, “Singers are neither worried nor sad but shake all cares from their souls.” Imagine what singing will be like in heaven!

But will we be praising and singing all the time? Some Christians wonder whether that might . . . . eventually get boring. Singing doesn’t always seem as fun as some of our hobbies or vacations. That’s an earthly perspective, though. We can’t compare heaven to anything we’ve experienced here.

Picture the scene John describes in Revelation. All the believers gathered around God’s throne. Countless angels joining them. Everyone lifting their voices in glorious praise. They are celebrating their salvation. Earlier, John describes the believers dressed in white robes, waving palm branches, and praising the Lamb who saved them. They know exactly why they’re there. Not because they earned their place, but because Jesus washed away their sins with his blood. So they have to sing about it.

Will we do other things in heaven besides worship? Scripture doesn’t tell us everything. But it does assure us that praising God will be pure joy. No worries. No sadness. No distractions. Just the overwhelming happiness of being with our Savior.

You don't have to earn a place in that heavenly choir. Jesus, the Lamb of God, has already won it for you. What a celebration that will be!
