âThe gift that keeps on givingâ. Perhaps itâs a phrase that gets a bit overused this time of year. It is invoked sarcastically as memories of Christmas past failures are shared once again (all in good fun, of course). Marketing companies use various versions of it in their tag lines to convince us their product is the perfect selection for a loved one. Itâs low hanging fruit for dad jokes when pointing out to his teenager the vacuum cleaner deal or lawnmower sale.
âI always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus.â â 1 Corinthians 1:4. We canât overuse the phrase âthe gift that keeps on givingâ as we consider the baby whose birth we celebrate at Christmas. God gifts to us his only Son. The apostle Paul points out in the verses that follow that we are âenriched in every way (v. 5),â we âdo not lack any spiritual gift (v. 7),â âhe will keep us firm to the end (v. 8)â, and âwe will be blameless on the day of our Lord (v. 8).â In other words, because of Jesus God has gifts for us (forgiveness, peace, hope, joy, purpose) and gifts through us (love, service, generosity, spiritual gifts).Â
I thank God for what he has done for you. I pray your Christmas is blessed with time to be fed by that message of grace given to you in Christ Jesus. I also thank God for what he has done through you. Godâs grace in Jesus keeps on giving as we consider the ministry at Rocky Mountain Lutheran High School. His grace is on display through the support we receive from our federation congregations. His love has moved the hearts of donors to not only help keep our daily operations funded but also going above and beyond by adding a gymnasium to our campus. His providence in granting us an amazing faculty and staff dedicated to the mission of Christian education for our youth. Stop and think how each of those gifts has led to even more gifts from God.
I invite you to show your thanks to God for his grace to RML through a gift of appreciation to our teachers and staff. They are a blessing to so many and further evidence of Godâs gifts that keep on giving.
I thank God for you!
